Hello, I need to take the log difference of a matrix, i.e. log(M[2 rows(M):,]/M[1:rows(M)-1,]). Unfortunately, M has elements equal to zero. I need to replace the nan's and inf's with 0's. This almost works M = isnan(M) ? 0 : M but does not remove inf's. Any sugestions?

Computing an index for unique combinations of discrete variables

Hi, I have firm level data and two categorical variables (region and sector). I need to define another variable which is an index identifying the unique combinations region-sector each firm belongs to, so I can use it in computing cluster-robust s.e. One way to do this is to use the command "values" for region and sector and then use a nested loop, but this seems quite time-consuming... Is there a simpler way in gretl to do it? BTW, it could be useful to allow one to use the option "cluster" also with the FE estimator. Since the robust s.e. used in FE is the Arellano estimator and this is a s.e. clusterized over cross-sectional units and thus it can be considered a specification of the cluster-robust estimator, it seems quite natural to allow one to identify clusters different from the units. Something like: panel y 0 x --robust=cvar or panel y 0 x --cluster=cvar where the default behavior panel y 0 x --robust is to clusterize over cross-sectional units. Bye Giuseppe

on gretl's capacity to handle a large matrix

Dear Allin, Is there something like Stata's "set matsize" command in gretl? gretl crashed when estimating a panel including 600 unit dummies (LSVD estiamtion); Stata did stop over and asked to increase the matsize capacity to handle a larger matrix (the upper limit is 11 000) Merry Christmas to you and to the gretl community! csv import bug on windows?

Dear Gretl users, when importing the attached csv file on windows 7 64bit (German localization) into gretl, it says that the first element in variable 1 (female) is empty. But it is not. See also below the Gretl console output. When importing into Gretl under Linux (ubuntu 12.04 64bit), everything works fine, the file is imported without problems. Does anybody know why this behavior might occur? probable bug

i everybody, I'm running gretl 1.9.14 on debian testing and I have a problem with export in rtf format on libreoffice calc. The problem is that, when running gretl in english, when exporting things like correlation matrix or anova table on libreoffice calc using rtf format, numbers are displayed as time. The funny thing is that there's not any problem if I run gretl in italian. I wonder whether it's a bug of gretl or libreoffice's. Sorry for my bad english. -- Alessandro Astuti

Wald test

Dear Allin, The Wald omit test recalled from a model window still reports the default F-form of the test. Instead, things look fine typing the "omit" command with the --chi-square option in the console which produces the chi-square Wald statistic. Best, Artur

on pooled panel estimation

Dear Allin, While estimating a pooled panel model through the ols command I realized that the F statistics is different if the --cluster option is used although the reported degrees of freedom remain unchanged (as it should be). Besides, does the --cluster option overrides the selection of HAC? Best, Artur

Looks like it is indeed a proxy issue. When I do this on a personal computer (not set up by my firm) I have no problem using yahoo_get. I would love to hear if you know of a workaround, but I’m guessing not. yahoo_get function

I can’t get this function to work. I get an error message “Error 12!/Data download failed” every time I try it. The instructions aren’t clear about what (if anything) I need to do on the Internet side of things. Do I need a page open with the data, or will the function look the page up?
