gretl snapshots for macOS

by Cottrell, Allin

Apologies to any Mac users who have tried and failed to install gretl snapshots lately. We have just realized that the certificate we use to sign gretl packages for Mac expired earlier this month. However, that's now fixed and the snapshots should be OK from today onward. Allin Cottrell

When Gretl is set to Spanish, the data and estimated models also reflect decimal commas. This hadn’t caused problems in previous versions of Gretl, but since last year we’ve been experiencing issues: our students send us .gretl session files and the usual icons (regression models, graphs, etc.) don’t appear. > Do you think this can be fixed, or should we instead export the data using decimal points rather than commas? > Rosa Gretl aims to support the decimal comma for display purposes, but when data are saved to file we try to ensure that the decimal point is used. The problem you had was due to decimal comma being used by gretl when writing (for example) the values of estimated coefficients in a session model. That was a bug, it wasn't supposed to happen. Now, with the latest gretl snapshots, that should be fixed. Specifically, * session files written by gretl should not contain any problematic numerical values, and in addition * "new" gretl should be able to read successfully older session files that were written using the decimal comma. Thanks, Rosa. Now I can see exactly what's wrong. I just have to figure out the best fix. Allin On Wed, Sep 17, 2025 at 10:58 AM BADILLO AMADOR, ROSA MARÍA <Rosa.Badillo(a)upct.es> wrote: > > Sorry, Allin, > I'm sending you the file in case you can take a look at it. > Thanks a lot > Rosa

That was never resolved because of missing follow-up inputs. Maybe we can hunt it with more success now. cheers sven

However, what happens on my side is that when I save the plot as an icon and then save the session, the icons don’t show up the first time I reopen the session. I have to open the session twice to see the icons. On the first open I get the error I mentioned earlier; the variables do appear (but not the icons). On the second open, the icons do appear. > This didn’t happen with earlier versions. I’m not sure whether this is an incompatibility with Windows 10, an issue with the working directory, or whether I’m misunderstanding the error. > Thanks, > Rosa Rosa, could you tell us what sort of icons you're talking about? I guess at least one is a plot; are there any model icons? Also it may be helpful to know, what sort of plot or model? Two other things that could be even more helpful: (1) the commands that went into the session you saved -- they can be found under /Tools/Command log. (2) a copy of the session file that didn't open properly the first time. Allin

session object(s) could not be rebuilt” when reopening session — icons only appear on second try

by BADILLO AMADOR, ROSA MARÍA

Dear colleagues, I'm experiencing a problem with gretl. When I save a session with icons and then try to reopen it, the icons are missing and I see the message “1 session object(s) could not be rebuilt”. If I open the same session file a second time, the icons appear and everything loads correctly. How can I resolve this so that the .gretl session opens correctly with the icons on the first attempt? Environment (for context): - gretl version: [2025a] - OS: [Windows 10] - Where the .gretl file is stored: [local disk or OneDrive] Steps to reproduce: 1) Save a session with icons. 2) Close gretl. 3) Reopen the .gretl session: icons are missing and the message appears. 4) Open the same session again: icons appear. Many thanks in advance for any guidance. Best regards, Rosa María Badillo Amador

VECM long-run impact matrix

by Artur T.

Hi all, I would like to retrieve the long-run impact matrix, called "C" in Johansen's jargon. After estimating a vecm, there is item "C". Is this object the matrix I am looking for (I could not find anything in the docs)? Furthermore, in a recent paper by Juselius, she reports standard errors for C. Is this information also stored in the system bundle? Here is an example to what I refer to: <hansl> set verbose off open denmark vecm 2 2 LRM LRY IBO IDE --rc --quiet bundle b = $system print b.C </>
