Yes, it is a permissions issue. The app must be authorized to access the
Desktop area.

back in December, a few users wrote me about problems that they were
having when opening files on their Macs; one of them sent me the attached
screenshot. Apparently, the gretl app has no access to the Desktop.
At the time, I was busy with other stuff but then it completely slipped my
