OK, I'm now on macOS 10.15.4, and gnuplot as called by gretl still works fine here. After deleting my old ~/.gretl2rc (maybe a relic of testing different gnuplot versions?), the default path for gnuplot is /Applications/Gretl.app/Contents/Resources/bin/gnuplot (Note: not gnuplot.sh. The gnuplot binary should, I think, inherit its environment from gretl, which is now set internally via C code.)
