The error message when calling tscvrol() is:

Indeed, that is what is really confusing that one option works (in my
latest example it's "--static") while the other ""--dynamic")
doesn't do so.

At this point it might be a good idea to also post your output and the
actual error message, instead of "doesn't work".
Apart from that, from the beginning it has felt strange that one of
--dynamic or --rolling would work and the other wouldn't. So I wouldn't
be surprised if there is a gretl bug lurking somewhere here.
