I'm glad to say this problem is fixed in the current gretl snapshots
for macOS, available at https://gretl.sourceforge.net/osx.html
(actually it has been fixed for a few weeks now).
Please note: if you usually install an official gretl release
(notarized), but you want to try a snapshot (code-signed but not
notarized), you need to give explicit permission to the installer, as
described at https://gretl.sourceforge.net/mac_security.html
