Dear All,
The Global Macro Database is available here:
https://www.globalmacrodata.com/data.html
It could be useful to have it available via the Gretl sample files.
Yes, that's an interesting (panel) dataset. FWIW, I tried with the Stata
dta fileformat (after providing my email address), which gave me a 12.5
MB file. I could open this file in gretl without problems, then I just
needed to tell gretl that it was a panel with "id" and "year" as the
index variables, with annual time.(I also needed to enter the starting
year 1086 manually in the data struture wizard - to be honest, that felt
a little redundant, but well. Yes, you read right, the thing starts in
the middle ages.) When I saved it in gretl's gdt standard format with
default compression level 1, I got a 6.6 MB file in the end.
So it's perhaps a little too large to ship it directly with gretl. Also,
it's updated quite often, so it's not obvious what's the best way to
make it accessible, because some maintenance would be involved.
cheers
