You're right, this happened to me too and I've been meaning to fix it for
a long time. A (hopefully) more satisfactory version is now in CVS.
In the meantime, here's what you can do: right-click on the graph and
select "Save to session as icon"; your graph will now be in the session
icon window. Right-click on its icon and select "Edit plot commands".
You'll be presented with the gnuplot commands that gretl uses to
generate the graph. Insert the line
set xrange [2001:2008]
somewhere before the line which starts with the word "plot". Save and
enjoy.
