That's why I was so interested the other day in using R as a
graphing
backend via the new R script feature in gretl. The gnuplot integration
in gretl is a remarkable achievement and is good enough for many things,
but not for all of my graphical needs, frankly. What I don't know of
course, is whether the way to go is to refine the gnuplot link or to
push the R integration.
IMHO the way to go is to refine the gnuplot link. Although R is good in
many ways, it is very slow. gnuplot, being programmed in C, should be
considerably faster. While I think it is good to be able to run R from
inside gretl, gretl should not depend on R for its built-in procedures,
e.g. graphing.
