OK, I can definitely agree on that. In fact, as a first step I
have tried to ensure this in current CVS and Windows snapshot. I
may have missed something, but so far I've re-done
* The parameter entry boxes for statistical tables, etc., and
* The data-editing spreadsheet.
The object is that even if you're in a decimal-comma locale and
have "use locale setting for decimal point" selected, you are
still able to use '.' as decimal separator in gretl numeric
dialogs without error. (Besides using ',', which remains valid
for the present, for purely numeric dialogs.)
Ok thanks, a quick test works ok for me.
For locale-using users, I would suggest to make the error message of the
define-new-variable dialog more informative: For example: "The symbol
',' is invalid in this context; if you used it as a decimal separator,
you must use '.' for this dialog (sorry for the inconvenience)".
An unrelated minor issue: Isn't it strange that to create a new variable
(by manually entering values, not via formula) one has to
1) select an (arbitrary) existing variable,
2) click edit values
3) choose add new variable in the dialog window?
I.e., why isn't (3) possible from the main menus? Or am I missing something?
thanks,
sven
