I disagree about the tablet here; I think they are basically going to
become Laptop 2.0. You can already connect a Bluetooth keyboard and use
them like a laptop. Also, I can imagine gretl's GUI working like a charm
on a touch display; I mean, you can specify a regression in gretl nicely
without a keyboard already; IMO you should be proud of that! Then just
replace "mouse click" by "finger press" and you're on a tablet.
The
purpose of my OP was to ask people for practical experiences with that.
So to be clear: I was *not* asking about a typical smartphone this time,
but certain tablets which are appearing that should support standard
desktop software out-of-the-box (in theory).
