It is known to have occurred in one or other of these cases: 1. Open a dataset, estimate a model and save it "as an icon". Go to Tools and select Command log. You might get "Data error". 2. As case 1, but after saving the model, save your session to file. Exit and restart gretl, and open the session file. Then try Tools/Command log. To be precise, I saw case 1 on Mac and case 2 on Windows.
