No, gretlmain.xml is installed where I believe it should be, but when
gretl is invoked it looks for it in the wrong place. Let me say
/opt/gretl/share/gretl/ui/gretlmain.xml
is created. But startup requires
/opt/share/gretl/ui/gretlmain.xml
To answer your question, I use
./configure --prefix=/opt/gretl

How are you invoking gretl's "configure" script? I've installed
gretl on several different machines using
configure --prefix=/some/place
(not literally, of course) and I haven't seen gretlmain.xml being
installed in the wrong location.
