I just want to reiterate that the PNG format is bitmaped and thus does not zoom gracefully
neither it is acceptable for, say, journal submission. So going via PNG is NOT, in my
humble opinion, a good option; I had rather import the enhanced metafile into Word/OO and
just crop the margins.
I am hoping Allin will eventually pull another one out of his hat and correct this too!

I just tried "omit exogenous variables" in VAR.
I estimated VAR with const, trend and one exogenous variable.
I tried to omit just one of the three available variables on the list and I
get the message: "Exact or near collinearity encountered".
Why is that?
Also in Gretl output names of selected and omited variables are not the
same.
Ps. VAR lag selection is now great.

Yes,
I just downloaded the latest version for Windows from Wake forrest.
Yes, I can send you my dataset but the same error comes out with another
dataset. All datasets I have already used with previous versions.
Cases:
1. I try to omit only one variable for example a trend - the error comes
out.
2. I try to omit 2 variables for example variable X and a trend - there is
no error
3. I try to omit again 2 variables but this time variable X and a constant -
there is no error but in Gretl output stays that I have omited variable X
and a trend. This is wrong i.e. this I done in case 2.

New subject: CVS bug-fixing report
Some things that have been reported recently are now fixed in CVS:
* The eqnprint command now works as advertised.
* Fixed a memory-corruption bug that occurred if one tried to
open the session icon window after saving a model with
a very large number of regressors.
* The new "omit exogenous variables" test for VARs is fixed.
I've still to get to the various graphing issues that people have
raised.
There will be a new Windows snapshot shortly, but I have to warn
people that there may be bugs in the GUI lag selection code at
present: it's work in progress. I've been working on this some more
for two reasons:
* To try to incorporate suggestions of Tadeusz Kufel, who has
argued for an explicit view of all the lagged terms added to
a given model in the selection dialog, with the ability to
remove inidividal lags with the mouse.
* To fix an issue with IV estimation (TSLS). In the previous
design here was no way in the GUI to select lags of the
dependent variable as instruments.

compiler or libs? I've used gcc-3.4 (with switches suitable for
pentium-m) and libc6-2.3.5 from Debian testing; later I'll try it on
AthlonXP and gcc-4.0.3

I fixed one obvious problem with displaying a session icon for a
huge model such as Marcin's. That is, gretl tries to create a
"tooltip" showing the model specification, which appears when you
mouse over the model's icon. But the string allocated for this was
not long enough to hold the hundreds of instruments in Marcin's
case.
My fix for this -- since you don't want a ridiculously long tooltip
anyway -- was to limit the generation of such a string to "small"
models (a "model list" length of 10 or less).
There may also be a more subtle bug in this general area, but after
fixing the obvious one Marcin's script runs OK for me. I also
tested it using valgrind, and valgrind reported no memory problems.
So I'm puzzled.
Marcin, if you could possibly get a report from valgrind, that would
be very helpful. For example
valgrind --tool=memcheck --log-fd=9 \
/path/to/gretl_x11 -r script.inp 9>valgrind.log
then open the Session icon window, close it, and close the program.
I'm running valgrind-3.1.0.

works on all applications (i.e. FireFox, Thunderbird, all KDE, all
GNOME, OpenOffice, and so on...) and it doesn't matter if I use font
server or put paths to fonts in 'xorg.conf'; even more: I use GnuPlot
for plotting graphs, end then I have TTF in images; very strange...

after mail from you with paths to fonts on
your computer, when I've stated that yours and mine paths are (almost)
the same;
I'd tell this way: the most important is that polish fonts works now and
if someone wants to have better fonts on graphs it is possible to
retrieve from Gretl script for GnuPlot and re-graph it; this is, of
course, only my opinion;

AMD and linear algebra libraries; I
use ATLAS 3DNow!, and that may be problem; I don't remember where, but
I've read, that in fact many applications runs wrong with these
libraries (3DNow is not IEEE-compliant), but I've never experienced
problems;
I'll try the same script on my note, there I have Intel with SSE;

I agree, PNG is good for on-screen viewing but not good for
insertion into documents. We'll see what we can do about fixing the
EMF issues. As others have mentioned, EPS is a good vector format,
and there's PDF too (if gnuplot is PDF-enabled -- and the
wgnuplot.exe supplied with gretl is).
