How to change language in gretl?
I have understood that it is necessary to start command
#LANG = <lang> gretl
But it still starts English language.

The identifiers such as "es_ES" and "pl_PL" must correspond to
languages that are defined on your system.

I don't know, then. I remember having problems with this early on and
Cristian, who knows more than I do on this, helped me sort them out. Cri? Are

This message is not from gretl itself: GTK is saying that the
specified locale is not supported by libc. You can try, as root,
using "localedef" to create the support files:
localedef -i it_IT -f UTF-8 it_IT
Then as a test:
LANG=it_IT locale

I solved this problem.
A mistake in gretl packages in ubuntu repository. After installation
from source all has worked.

Gretl should start in the default language of your operating system, if the
corresponding translated resources are available. Apart from English, we
currently have Italian, Spanish, Basque, Polish, French and German fully
supported. I understand the Portuguese translation is under way, plus some
other languages have some level of support. No-one has undertaken a Russian
translation yet (that I know of).
Under Linux, selecting a different language (among the ones I mentioned) is easy.
If you wanted Italian, for example, and assuming you use a bash shell, all you
have to do is issue the shell command
export LANG="it_IT"
and then run gretl from that same shell. I don't know about Windows or Mac OS X.

the user guide btw. So maybe for the coming release that slightly
exaggerated claim could be corrected, wherever it appears.
Otoh, there isn't that much remaining, so depending on your release
plans German might be finished by 1.5.2 or so.
