Any chance of updating the hard copy of the Gretl User's Guide? I was going to
purchase a copy of it from Amazon but see that it was published in 2016 and there have
been quite a few changes since then. Thanks!

There's no "merchandise" such as a printed copy of the guide by the
gretl project AFAIK. It's a free PDF and could be printed by anybody. I
don't know who sold it on Amazon (or anywhere else) back then. Actually
I would think that the price tag mustn't be too high (not too much above
the cost of printing) as per the philosophy of the open source license.

Ok, my bad. I just assumed that it was made available by the authors of the project. Sure
I could just print it out but would prefer a nicely bound copy, and I don't like
reading from a screen. A real book is better for this kind of material because it's
easier to flip back and forth between topics.

I sympathize with that point of view. Maybe we should explore
options for making a printed copy available. But it would have to be
"on demand" and somehow tied in with gretl updates: we wouldn't want
to spend a lot getting something printed just to end up with unsold
and outdated stock.
As time permits, I'll try looking into that possibility.

Just an Idea. If you have a local printer that prints and binds theses you
might consider getting him to print and bind a copy of the current manual.

I am a paper-copy person, but printing software manuals in bulk is like
curving in stone the flow of a river, pretending that the river will
stop flowing.
Not to mention that currently the gretl user guide is 445 pages, let
alone all the other help files.
They are nicely formatted in .pdf and anyone that does want to have them
in print, can have them printed and binded for themselves.
Although it's certainly their resources to consume as they like, I think
it would be a pity if the GoG were to spend /any/ time, money, or space,
on this issue. It's not like they 're Legion.

Allin, there's no question of printing the manual in bulk. There are plenty of
print-on-demand services such as lulu.com, createspace (Amazon's Self-Publishing
service) and mybestseller.co.uk (or .com). I tried lulu.com first but found issues with
their web site, so I used mybestseller.co.uk. I uploaded the pdf and created a paperback
(cut down to around 400 pages - I excluded the appendices) which cost £13.98 including
postage, not bad. The process is very easy and only took about 10 minutes. You can choose
to publish which entails buying ISBN in which case the book will be distributed on Amazon
and other outlets, or just purchase for your own use (print only).
