I'm only getting the output you're describing when I enter the same
variable as dependent and as the single element of the list of
independent variables. And in this case it strikes me as correct.

it is strange and IMHO it should not happen, but probably there is a bug.
My suggestion would be to use current development version (which is 1.3
ang can be found here (BACE.zip):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/bace-for-gretl/files/snapshot).
Once you download the file just run the followinh line in gretl's script
window or console: "pkg install /path/to/BACE.zip". And that's it: you
have current SVN version with many bugs fixed and new features added.
You my try do run the following HANSL script:

open australia.gdt
include BACE.gfn
genr time
x_lags = 1
y_lags = 1
list X = 6..10
X = lags(x_lags, X) time

contained a single indep. variable and y a single dep. variable. So as far
as I can see the error message is nonsense. It should be possible to
estimate a Bayesian regression with a single indep variable eg a Bayesian
trend function.

I'm only getting the output you're describing when I enter the same

just for clarification: BACE approach is not purely Bayesian, since it
relays on OLS estimates. This is because in BACE we assume extremely
diffuse prior on regression parameters and we use BIC as an
approximation of marginal data density. Although Raftery over 25 years
ago named this approximation "crude" he showed that it works fine. Of
course such setup impose strict prior assumptions, which in fact tends
to RIC (Risk Inflation Criterion). You can find more in: Eduardo Ley
and Mark F.J. Steel (2009), "On the effect of prior assumptions in
Bayesian model averaging with applications to growth regression",
Journal o Applied Econometrics 4(24).
So, the whole BACE method is approximation, but again: it works quite
well. For example, to replicate classical BMA analysis by Carmen
Fernández, Eduardo Ley, Mark J.F. Steel (2001), "Model Uncertainty in
Cross-Country Growth Regressions", Journal of Applied Econometrics, Vol.
16, No. 5, pp. 563-576 you should just set 'avg_model_size=k/4' (where k
is a number of variables).

requirements l-your suggestion is leaving me perplexed as to how to
implement the update and where to put it. My programming expertise only

I have downloaded BACE. zip from Source Forge into my Downloads folder.
BACE.zip contains the pdf afticle on BACE and a file BACE.gfn. On my
laptop, Gretl resides in C:\Program Files\gretl.
I cannot understand what the instruction *pkg install /path/to/BACE.zip *really
means . Why would I install the already downloaded file BACE.zip *i*nto
BACE.zip? Is the pkg BACE.zip? If so where and how do I define pkg in the
script? is the path really to BACE.zip, or somewhere else?

As advised I downloaded BACE.zip and it installed BACE -infact it appears
at th ebottom of the list as a as a seperate modeling option in the GUI. I
then set up a linear TS model with Dep variable (no lags) and a bundle of
indep variables (no lags either) including a predefined time trend Sample
1998-2019. I use the default GUI settings.
The result:-
*> Options["avg_model_size"] = avg_model_sizeThe symbol
'avg_model_size' is
undefinedData error*** error in function BACE_GUI, line 13> scalar
Options["avg_model_size"] = avg_model_size*
There is nowhere in the GUI that one can specify average model size
-whatever that might imply.

Hi, I'm not seeing this problem/behavior with the current released
version 1.2. If I understand the previous messages correctly, you're
using Marcin's development version. So it would seem as if there is a
regression (no pun intended; a new bug that wasn't there before) in
there. Sorry, since I'm not involved with BACE, can't say anything else.

message just today.
Referring to the problem you faced with: yesterday I discovered it by
myself and I fixed it so current SVN version works well.
One important thing: we (Jacek Kwiatkowski and I) decided to to simplify
GUI interface. This change is related with new models the package
currently covers. As a consequence GUI now offers only basic options
assuming default values for the rest parameters. So, if you want to
specify options not covered by GUI please use script interface. Example
calls are described in PDF available at SF and bundled in ZIP archive.

3. SVN version is the one which is under development but tested against
example script(s). The best option for you would be:
a. uninstall BACE package
b. download BACE.zip from

c. run in command line window: 'pkg install /path/to/BAZE.zip --local'

Hence I entered in script

a. uninstall BACE package
b. download BACE.zip from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/bace-for-gretl/files/snapshot/
c. run in command line window: 'pkg install /path/to/BAZE.zip --local'

Brian, if you literally mean that you wrapped the command line
(following the ? above) in single-quotes, then surely it would not
work. A gretl command must not be quoted. Besides that the path

directory at the root of your hard drive ("/"). A plausible version of
the command would be something like
pkg install c:/users/brian/Downloads/BACE.zip --local

because previous releases calculated Pearson coefficient between
numerical and analytical probabilities in a wrong way.
