I am wondering if someone has had the same problem I have. I cannot
execute anything in the command line window anymore. I dont know why. I
tried to reinstall gretl, deleting the .gretl in my home directory but
nothing works. When I type a command it does do anything. It is like
writing in an text editor.

Are you sure you're opening the console and not the script editor
window? The toolbar icons are similar (perhaps too similar). You
can be sure of getting the console by selecting from the menubar
/Tools/gretl console.

No it is really the console as you can see. I press enter and nothing
works after. I hope it won't happen to my students I am trying to
convince that gretl is the best solution.

OK, I see you do have a console window open. Can you please tell
us exactly which version of gretl you are running? The menu item
<< Aide/A propos de gretl >> will give you a version number and
build date.

1.8.0
I just installed this version instead of the one that was available on
ubuntu intrepid (which was 1.7.?). I thought it would solve the problem.
I dont understand because I use gretl a lot in class and I dont have
that problem. It is just un my computer.

Thanks, but please: where did you get 1.8.0 from? The gretl site
has rpms for gretl 1.8.0, but if you're on Ubuntu I guess you
probably didn't install an rpm. Did you download a 1.8.0 deb file
from packages.debian.org?

Sorry, but I'm not able to replicate this problem with current
gretl built from the source code on my home PC running Ubuntu
8.04.
I started out trying to install the .deb files for gretl 1.8.0 but
could not complete this, since the debs have dependencies that are
not satisfied on Ubuntu 8.04 (libgfortran3). However, I did
install from the deb packages the most recent gretl version that
is available for Hardy, namely gretl 1.7.1, and did not experience
any problem with the console.
I would suggest that you send a report to the Debian packager,
Dirk Eddelbuettel. I think you can find contact information at
http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gretl.html . Dirk is a long-time
friend of gretl and a conscientious maintainer.
