Dear Profs,
I hope this email finds you well.
Please, I've got to realize recently that the impulse response function in
the SVAR and the SVECM is no longer working. It keeps showing error
messages. Only the historical decomposition is functioning.
I humbly request that the authorities in the house help look at what is
wrong. Maybe the SVAR/SVECM routine is no longer compatible with the newly
released version of the grelt.

Hi, thanks for the report. I assume you are talking about the SVAR addon
and the SVECM_GUI package. Could you be more specific in what way you
are using those, and what and how it is failing? Version numbers of
everything involved would also be good.

The problem seems to stem from
backslash-t (\t) being interpreted as the
tabstop code. This might affect all Windows users with a user name
starting with "t" (both uppercase and lowercase, I think). Perhaps the
combination \n might also cause the same problem, so user names starting
with "n".

Good question. Timmy, did you perhaps set up a new machine / new system
with a new user name recently? Or did your user name on Windows always
start with a "t", and SVAR worked? I'm not sure right now whether we
have changed those code lines recently, but it's possible in principle.

which it calls. So when SVAR is fixed, I would expect that SVEC_GUI

I tried running the SVEC model on my dell PC and it works well.
This made perplexed as I can't really figure out what is happening on the
other machine.

OK, thanks. This fits the picture, because names starting with lowercase
t (and probably also lowercase n) would be affected on Windows. (Not
uppercase T or N, contrary to what I wrote as a guess previously.)
I wonder how many people ran into this problem before but never reported
it... On the other hand, many people would probably use their given name
with an uppercase letter at the beginning. Whatever.
As regards a workaround until a fixed new version of SVAR is out, the
only thing I can think of right now is to create a new user account on
your machine that doesn't start with t or n, and run your model in there.
