Perhaps of interest to anyone experiencing the problem on exit
that Talha mentioned. There's a new Windows snapshot at the usual
place:
http://ricardo.ecn.wfu.edu/pub/gretl/gretl_install.exe
This has some modifications to the "exit" code, although since I
haven't identified the problem with any confidence I don't know if
it will help.
This build also incorporates Andreas's suggestion of showing the
median of the dependent variable for LAD models.

I am sorry to report that I still have the both: "gretlw32.exe has
encountered a problem" and the "The instruction at "0x7c91103c"
referenced memory at "0x010c9294" . The memory could not be
"written"." type of errors using yesterday's snapshot.
Well, this problem doesn't happen each time and it seems that there
are no other complaints so I guess it is OK for now. I'll definetely
report if I find out more or find an easier way to replicate it.

Does this only happen with gretl? I'm no windows wizard, but this may be
some other program's fault --- the OS itself, the window manager (or
whatever they call it in windows-land), antivirus software... Do you have
another windows box to try to reproduce the problem?

My Windows system seems to run OK with all other programs but I don't
trust it a bit. That is why I also suspect this can be something to
the with windows, its drivers, other software installed, some malware
etc. I can try to replicate i on my wife's computer but she is out of
town right now.
I currently using the Windows version because I have Pardus Linux
2007.1 installed on my Linux partition. I really like the stability
and ease of use of this distro but they don't currently have the gretl
package and looks like compiling gretl on it requires some time and
effort, which I cannot afford right now.

I don't recall if this is the same problem, but I've just begun getting a similar
problem:
open a gretl session
do some stuff (no problems)
save the session
click on the X to close gretl
gretl closes, but I get the "gretlw32.exe has
encountered a problem" dialog.
(no problem when doing File\Exit to close)
I tried to get some details from the "bug report" that it wanted me to send to
Microsoft, but was unsuccessful. I can try that again if it'd be helpful.
I don't have the very latest snapshot -- the build date is 3/21/07.
As with Talha, I haven't noticed a problem with any of my other Windows programs (at
least not lately).

I discovered something that looked like it might be the cause of
this and built a new snapshot

gretl directory on exit -- if the current fix doesn't work then
looking at that file might help to pinpoint the problem.

for me the first time I exited it via the window close cross.
With the snapshot above, I haven't gotten any crashes so far, having

That's good to hear. I discovered a small piece of
hidden/forgotten code that I think must have been responsible for
the problem.

Sorry for not replying earlier. I followed the procedure about 50
times each with both of my files, which created the 2 two problems
that I mentioned. The result was...

that there were no problems at all. The program closed correctly each
time. I think it is now safe to assume this problem is resolved :-)
