You can copy a file foo.gdt to foo.txt.gz, then run gunzip on the latter to get foo.txt, an XML file. You can then open foo.txt in a text editor and see what's wrong. If it's fixable, then copy the fixed file to foo.gdt and open it in gretl. (gretl data files don't have to be gzipped.) Allin Cottrell
