That was the idea at one point, but it got too complicated to
maintain. As things stand you have to d/l the new package (and
preferably run the uninstaller for the old package before
installing the new one).
I guess we should either make an effort to reinstate the
"auto-update" mechanism, or remove mention of it from the
docs.
I think we ought to remove it. The update-from-within-the-app facility
makes sense in commercial software, where you want to have control of who
downloads what, check for pirated copies etcetera. In our case, I don't
think that downloading and installing is particularly heavy on the user,
but at the same time it may save us a few headaches.
