I didn't mean to send this to the list, but having done so let me add
a follow-up. There's no artificial limitation on the number of
variables or observations in a gretl dataset. The limitation is just
that of the computer's memory -- or in the last instance, the maximum
size of the 32-bit integers we use to index the data.
The big dta files from the Fed that Javier was talking about can be
read by gretl on a relatively modest computer: 8GB of RAM is more than
sufficient.
