I have installed Octave-4.4.1.dmg from
https://octave-app.org/Download.html
on macOS Catalina. It works fine with gretl when the following is
entered (or browsed for) in the "Path to octave executable" box
(Programs tab, under /Tools/Preferences.General):
/Application/Octave-4.4.1.app/Contents/Resources/usr/bin/octave-octave-app
(an unnecessarily long path if you ask me, but there it is).
One point to note is that there's a typo in the simple octave demo
script in the Gretl User's Guide (now fixed in git): "matric" for
"matrix" in the second-last line.
