Hi,
I have series in Gretl that need to be corrected according to TRAMO with the
following rules:
Additive outliers, Transitory outliers, critical values of 4 for the t-test.
(All these can be specified in gretl dialog).
I don't need seasonal adjusting.
How do I get the interpolated series back into Gretl? (When seasonal
adjustment is off, there is no way to save series)
How can I activate it via a script? (As the above, needs to be done on a
regular basis).

Sorry, can't be done via gretl at present, though that could be
added. Right now the only thing you can do is, after running
tramo, manually retrieve the outlier-corrected series from the
file xcout.t, which will be in tramo/graph/series under your
gretl "dotdir" or working directory. On Linux that'll be
~/.gretl. On Windows, it'll be under your "Application Data"
folder.
This file just needs to have the first few lines edited to be
readable by gretl, e.g.
from:

OUTLIER CORRECTED SERIES

</tramo-output>
to:

I had forgotten that Ignacio Diaz-Emparanza worked on this sort of
issue, and came up with a clever script. I'm attaching a copy;
you should be able to modify it for your purposes.

is looking for it in the wrong place. What do you get if you do

I just tested on Windows and got the same error that you saw, but
eventually I figured out what's wrong. If the path to tramo.exe
contains spaces (e.g. "C:\Program Files\...") you have to wrap the
@tramo variable in quotes in the relevant shell line:
if WIN32
set shelldir @tramodir\graph\series
! del /Q *.t && cd @tramodir && "@tramo" -i sername ...

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but I did not put quotes
around "@tramodir", as in "cd @tramodir". In fact I changed one
line of the original shell commands, breaking it into 2 lines.
Original:
! del /Q *.t && cd @tramodir && @tramo -i sername ...
Changed:
! del /Q *.t
! cd @tramodir && "@tramo" -i sername ...
(where the following material "..." is unchanged).

Eurosstat have a package DEMETRA which is a free user-friendly
interface to Tramo/Seats and X-12-Arima for automated applications.
You can download it from
circa.europa.eu/irc/dsis/eurosam/info/data/demetra.htm
It was very useful when i used an earlier version.

gretl menu: file/function files/on server/ tramolin
this has the more updated and corrected script.

Thanks. I will test the function package when I back home.
It is because my university runs proxy servers to connect to the Internet.
(It is another issue though..) I have not been connect to the gretl server "
ricardo.ecn.wfu.edu" from my university despite that I have set the gretl's
option on proxy server "Use HTTP proxy" and filled the required proxy
ip:port.
gretl alsways responded "Error retrieving data from server."
Is there anything possibly wrong with my proxy setting? Otherwise, I am not
able to have access to gretl server in my office.

After digging, I found my problem seems from incorrect path under Windows
environment. But I am not sure where the error should attribute to.
I test the code one-line by one-line.
It is found that the shell commands failed:
! cd "@tramodir"
so that this line does not work at all
! "@tramo" -i sername -k sername.ser
And the (part of) relevant code was modified as follows:
if WIN32
set shelldir @tramodir\graph\series
! del /Q *.t
# ! cd "@tramodir"

Are you sure you have "!" at the start of that line? If you're
getting "command 'cd' not recognized" the command is not being
passed to the shell.

If you have a look at the script in the package, you will see the line with
the parameters passed to tramo is:
INPUT RSA=3
You will have to read the Tramo manual to see if this is doing what you want.
The manual says that RSA=3 is the same as applying the parameters:
LAM=-1, INTERP=1, IATIP=1, AIO=2, NOADMISS=1, SEATS=2, INIC=3, IDIF=3.
This basically means that Tramo does an automatic ARIMA identification and
detects and corrects for three types of outliers (additive outliers,
transitory changes and level shifts).
If you wish any other correction you will have to change the line "INPUT
RSA=3".

Hi,
I have the used the package and it nearly worked.
The only thing that seems not to work was the handling of missing codes at
the beginning and end of the files.
First time the script added correctly lines per missing code, but I think
the adding of the same lines after TRAMO is mistaken.
I had to take the
type ...
lines out of the routine for it to work.

I had forgotten that Ignacio Diaz-Emparanza worked on this sort of
issue, and came up with a clever script. I'm attaching a copy;
you should be able to modify it for your purposes.
Allin Cottrell
I finally wrote it as a function package. You may find it opening with the
gretl menu: file/function files/on server/ tramolin
this has the more updated and corrected script.
Please, Yi-Nung, try it with this package and report any error. I will try
to
help.
