Hello all,
I just downloaded gretl CVS today. After I uninstalled the old version and
installed the new CVS, I could not start gretl. The error message is "Failed to
open file 'C:\Program Files\gretl\ui\gretlmain.xml': No such file or
directory."
I always install gretl in drive D: because my drive C: is already full. No
problems happened before.
I am using Windows XP.

Hi,
I confirm the problem, here is what I did:
Installed 1.9.1 at C:\Program Files\gretl\
Installed snapshot 1.9.1cvs at D:\gretl\ -- It did not install
there, only kept there a user file
gretl runs as expected
Uninstalled snapshot 1.9.1cvs -- DELETED folder and
my user file (kept 1.9.1 at C:\Program Files\gretl\)
I manually deleted C:\Program Files\gretl\
Installed snapshot 1.9.1cvs at D:\gretl\ -- Installation worked
as expected.
Dialog box with missing xml file appears.
Here is the workaround:
Create folder C:\Program Files\gretl\.
Copy into it the folder ui from the current installation folder:
ui\gretlmain.xml

Thanks for the report. In current CVS I modified the procedure for
determining the main gretl directory on startup, with the idea of
making gretl usable by people who don't have any admin rights on
Windows and hence cannot write the usual registry keys. But
clearly something has gone wrong with this. There should be a fix
available soon.

I still could not start gretl.
The error message was "Failed to open file 'd:\Program
Files\gretlui\gretlmain.xml': No such file or directory." I think "\"
is missing
between gretl and ui.
The workaround suggested by Hélio Guilherme may work, but not completely.
File gretlgretlcmd_hlp.txt and gretlgenrgui.hlp would also be missing when we
click function or command reference from the Help menu.

Making progress, but no cigar yet. You're right, there's a path
separator missing. I believe this should now be finally fixed in
this morning's snapshot.
