I believe both terms mean the same thing in gretl), and then please see
the paragraph "Displaying data labels" in ch. 6 of the user guide.
Whether it works for you or not, it would be useful if you could report
back with what you found out.
To this end, it would be great if gretl was extended so that it could
import textual variables as well.
I believe you are talking about "string-valued series", please see
chapter 16 of the user guide.
