Dear All,
I have installed gretl on two machines (desktop and laptop).
Graphs in my desktop appear fine.
In my laptop there is an issue with the graphs. The scale of the axis is an issue with
numbers being too big and the graph too small.
Is there anything I need to do to fix it?
I have tried the options from the preferences , default graph scale.
I have also tried uninstalling and re installing.

Hi Theo,
which versions of both gretl and gnuplot are you using on which OS?
It may be helpful to attach a screenshot of such a graph (file should
not exceed 100kb though), too.

As Artur said, please give us as much detail as possible: gretl
version, operating system and type of laptop. Might be useful to
know the screen resolution and whether, if you're on Windows, you
have Display Scaling activated.
I have my macroeconomics students use gretl to prepare graphs of
macro data, and every now and then one of them has the problem you

On occasion I have experienced a similar problem plotting time series in
the multiple minigraphs format. The dates overprint themselves on the X
axes.
It might be better if the X axis could not only be rescaled, but in
addition the data plot interval values increased eg instead of 10
intervals, reduce to 5 ie every 2 years instead of every year.
I recognise this might be tricky in the multiple plot format, but I imagine
ought perhaps (not being a programmer} to be more straightforward to
resolve for a single graph.

pathology, not seen by most users of gretl on Windows. So can I
press you for a little more information?
What gretl version are you running? (Look under /Help/About gretl if
in doubt.) And what version of MS Windows? And can you tell us any
more about your Dell Inspiron, its Display in particular? One or

So this appears to be the trigger of the problem, in Display/Scale
and layout:
"Change the size of text, apps and other items: 300%"
Looks like gnuplot is scaling up the text in graphs by a factor of 3
(but not scaling up the size of the graph itself).
We're looking into some possible fixes for this. In the meantime you
could see if this makes a difference:
* Navigate to c:\Program Files\gretl and find wgnuplot.exe
* Right-click on wgnuplot.exe to get the context menu and select
"Properties".
* Under the "Compatibility" tab, find "Change high DPI settings" (or
something like that) and select "Override high DPI scaling behavior"
(or similar) for the Application.

http://gretl.sourceforge.net/win32/ includes an updated version of
gnuplot (5.4.1). We'd be interested to know if that helps.

Sorry this has taken a while, but I'm hopeful this should now be
fixed in the current snapshot for 64-bit Windows.
I found a relevant discussion on the gnuplot developers' list with a
patch to fix the font size issue. The patch postdates the gnuplot
5.4.1 release so it's not surprising that updating to 5.4.1 didn't
help.
