spurious description string in pointerized series arg

Hi, the attached script files demonstrate a bug. Please run the bugtest_driver.inp script which includes the other script port_bugtest.inp. The example uses the built-in example dataset abdata. The point is that the top-level series "e" which is passed as a pointer arg to the function (factcoint_test) gets a spurious and more or less arbitrary description string, sometimes including non-printable characters. Actually sometimes the correct description happens; in that case please just run the script again. To trigger the bug it seems necessary to have an enclosing loop. In itself it's not a big deal, but since apparently chunks of memory end up where they do not belong, maybe some related unknown bugs exist and may be fixed by getting this straight. cannot run standard gretl package on Debian under WSL (Windows subsystem for Linux)

Hi, I have Debian Linux installed within the WSL on Windows 11. I can install the standard gretl package there alright. However, when I try to execute "gretl", I get the following error: (gretl_x11:7726): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 12:24:09.681: Settings schema 'org.gnome.desktop.interface' is not installed Trace/breakpoint trap In contrast, I can run "gretlcli" OK. I believe that this desktop interface thing can be switched off at configure time, if I were to compile myself. This is not the point and the aim right now, however - this report is only about the standard package. I guess this might have to be reported to the Debian guys / Dirk Eddelbuettel, but I wanted to hear your opinions first. Perhaps there is a run-time switch as well? thanks sven

optval_string and MEANTEST, VARTEST (crash)

Hi everybody, related to the revived discussion about https://sourceforge.net/p/gretl/feature-requests/221/, I was doing some grepping and looking around in the source, to see how the existing implementations for "meantest" and "vartest" work with a dummy specification, and how it could be copied to "difftest". One thing that puzzled me a little was this: In lib/src/describe.c, there's the function <C> static int split_by_var (const DATASET *dset) { const char *vname = get_optval_string(MEANTEST, OPT_D); return current_series_index(dset, vname); } </C> so the value MEANTEST is hardcoded and fixed in there. However, AFAICS this function is also called from vars_test(), where of course the command context should be VARTEST instead of MEANTEST, no? Is this OK? -- Actually, running the following test makes me think that it is a serious bug instead, so be careful: <hansl> open AWM vartest EER --split-by=D1 # crasher! </hansl> I'm also seeing that the documentation of the "vartest" hansl function has some examples involving "meantest" instead, maybe another indication that things were left in a kind of dangling state back then. cheers sven

Build fails on s390x for fedora

Dear all, the build for the s390x architecture fails on fedora, please see [1]. Apparently the fix is rather easy and already described in the bug report I just filed. [2] I guess it doesn't warrant a new release, I will just include a patch so that it builds fine, but I still wanted to share. Perhaps if possible send me the link to the git commit fixing this, would make it a bit easier to fix the package then. Thanks a lot! deprecated band option in guide

Hi, it seems there are two places in the user guide where the deprecated --band option to gnuplot is still used: In the cheatsheet chapter ("Plotting an asymmetric confidence interval"), and in the listing 36.4 in the state-space context. Since the latter is downloadable, I guess it has to be replaced there as well (http://gretl.sourceforge.net/guidefiles/phillips-curve.inp). It's not entirely clear to me whether those are generated files. cheers sven

time series cmds like corrgm in panel data

Hi all, I remember a longer while ago that we had to block some filter functions to spuriously work on panel data, because they were mixing the units together. Now I wonder if something similar is still happening with commands like corrgm? Example: <hansl> open grunfeld corrgm invest </hansl> I'm getting a default output up to lag 23, while this dataset only has a time dimension of 20. So this looks a bit suspicious. What's happening there? thanks sven
