I'm all for low-end solutions. But eventually old software becomes
obsolete. Gretl stopped working on Win98 long ago (an even lighter OS),
and now maybe the same destiny is happening to Win2k. Anyway, it's the
programmers who decide whether the additional support effort is too big.
BTW, the gretl windows web page should probably be updated:
"should work OK on all NT-based versions of Windows (that is, NT4, 2000,
XP, Vista or Windows 7; but not Win9X or Windows ME)."
