I am starting to translate to Portuguese the commands online help,

did some tests on the PDF (with a horrible substitute font).
The help never shows in my LANG setting. Do I only need to translate
files in doc/chapters_pt (which I created and adjusted makefiles)?. The
cmdlist.xml is the only that is partially translated.
Also my PDF is never shown (only for testing). Could we have some
special debug flag for me to test it? For example DOCPTDEBUG, to pass to
compiler and then the right help would be shown.
Please see

for advice on the structure of the files for translation.
As for getting your translated files to appear: for this to work
properly (that is, they appear if and only if LANG=pt*) I'll have
to take a look at the helpfiles code. For testing, though, you
could do this:
1. Rename the English versions
PREFIX/share/gretl/doc/gretl-ref.pdf
PREFIX/share/gretl/gretlcmd.hlp
PREFIX/share/gretl/gretlgui.hlp
PREFIX/share/gretl/gretlcli.hlp
as, respectively,
PREFIX/share/gretl/doc/gretl-ref-en.pdf
PREFIX/share/gretl/gretlcmd.hlp.en
PREFIX/share/gretl/gretlgui.hlp.en
PREFIX/share/gretl/gretlcli.hlp.en
2. Put your pt files in place.
3. Symlink the original names of the English files to the pt ones,
e.g., in PREFIX/share/gretl/
ln -s gretlcmd.hlp.pt gretlcmd.hlp
Then the pt files should appear by default. To get the English
back again:
ln -sf gretlcmd.hlp.en gretlcmd.hlp
Allin.
