Yes, IMO this is the only sane way to go. I've made a start on
it. The modifications to the existing code are not too severe.
I'll test tomorrow than make a snapshot available.

Sorry, that was never supposed to work: it was a definite bug that
you could do that and not get an error message. The bug is now
fixed. The point is that we're supposed to able to do arbitrary C
floating-point arithmetic with matrices, and you can't do that
with NAs. So matrices are not allowed to contain NA. I'm pretty
sure it's in the manual.
Perhaps I should ask: why do you want NAs in a matrix? Maybe we
can think of an alternative approach.
Don't worry, It only afected to some matrix output that I was printing through
the printf command. I can do that in another way.
Allin, do you remember my problem with the decimal commas?
I have just updated my Kubuntu to version 7.10 and ... the problem
disappeared! So I suppose something was ill-configured in my previous setup.
Thanks to you and Hélio Guilherme for your help in trying to resolve this
problem.
