Alternatively, you may want to try 1.6.5 and see if it fixes things for you:

Of course, you'd miss all the nice things we've put into 1.7.0, but maybe
1.6.5 is good enough for your project.
Just to confirm what Jack said: the 1.7.0 dmg file is strictly for
Intel Macs. The 1.6.5 dmg is OK for PPC, and should also work on
Intel via the built-in Mac emulation.
