That's a matter of what formats the target program is willing to
accept. I find that on Windows Notepad and Notepad++ will only accept
plain text (as you describe), but I can paste CSV from gretl into
Excel and RTF into Word.
On Linux I can paste any of the formats into Emacs and NEdit.
Libreffice Writer will also accept most formats.
