Yes, good idea.

could be provided by replicating in the example script some known-good
result.
I agree with Jack that this would be awkward to implement. However, I
also agree with you that including replication of known good results
in a package is something that should be encouraged, even if not
required. It might be worth adding a field to the gfn specification to
specify a replication/test script (which I guess could be the same
thing as the sample script but might be distinct). That would make it
possible to detect right off if a given package has such a thing.
