Yes, point taken.
There are inherent difficulties in implementing exact carry-over
of options from some gnuplot "terminal" (e.g. PNG) to others (e.g.
PDF or EPS), but we can and should do a bit better.
We now (CVS) carry across the user's choice of font from PNG
to PDF, if gnuplot supports the pngcairo and pdfcairo terminals
(since both of these employ fontconfig). That support is present
by default for gretl on Windows and OS X, but on Linux it requires
CVS gnuplot 4.3.
In addition (but this one is not a change) the user's choice of
line width should carry over. This may require a little manual
tweaking: the differing device resolution may mean that you have
to "exaggerate" a thicker line width to make it visible in PDF or
EPS output.
As for gnuplot documentation not being readily accessible (Sven),
I have to disgree: google "gnuplot documentation" and click "I
feel lucky!". It's all there.
