Well, like I have said, the package itself is not important. The
author follows this list and he will fix it for sure, especially after
this discussion.
OK, let's hope he does! Otherwise it would be nice if you
could
eventually tell us which package has a problem.
Writing a disclaimer can never hurt you. My other suggestions are also
considerable. At least some of them. Anyway, I dont see this as a big
issue.
As I said, I agree for example about the disclaimer, especially in the
GUI context. (In script use the package and author names are printed
after the include <somepackage> command.) IMHO the package authors'
names could be added in the execution dialog window right next to the
package name (at the top). That would make it clear that it's not from
official gretl itself, and besides may also be an incentive for new
package authors to become famous, hehe.
Time for an anecdote: In R I actually have had to deal with at least one
faulty package where the authors would not believe me that something was
wrong and giving incorrect results. Only some years later the bug was
fixed. I don't think anybody was attributing the problem to R per se
(but who knows?). However, since gretl comes as a seemingly standalone
program, I guess the difference between the core and the packages may be
less clear to our users.
thanks
