Hi,
A possible solution which I think is preferable is to add a "beginner
level" check box in the Tools > Preferences > General dialog box that gives
additional output if it is checked. However, I think it should should be
off by default, but maybe could be turned on already in the installation
procedure (add a check box in the installation dialog).
Having this personalization option seems to be the best solution. But I
think that the additional output should be On by default, and then the
expert user would have it disabled.
We could have this customization for outputs, in a different Preferences
tab. For example Tools > Preferences > General > Model Outputs tab. Here
we would have several check boxes for the different outputs, like
Information Criterias, (a beginner user may not require those).
We could have two or three levels of detail (radio buttons), that would
set the different check boxes by group of "expertise".
Unfortunately I am not offering myself for programming this :(.
In general, I am all for customizability. It is a characteristic of a
good
and userfriendly software, which I think gretl is. Every user have their
own needs and priorities. It is also necessary in order to attract more
people to gretl, both as users and developers.
Best regards and thanks for a great software,
Andreas
Keep doing a good work,
Hélio
