The argument you give makes sense to me. If we're in a position
to support both C and D, any further thoughts on which should be
the default? (I should add a switch to the GUI for ARIMA in
either case.)

I prefer D, as you said, for being compatible with other software, but I am
not strongly opposite to C provided that: (at the risk of boring you an Jack)
1- The arima command with and without the --x-12-arima option estimates the
same model and
2- All the subject be clearly explained in the manual.
