Which Ubuntu? This sounds like flakiness in bleeding edge GTK and/or
experimental Ubuntu GUI.
Yes, probably -- I have Unity (or what it's called) running here. BTW
and OT: At first I was quite reluctant with respect to the new Ubuntu
interface, but what's really nice is that you have a very convenient
keyboard-centric launcher: You hit the Windows key (which was always
wasted on Linux AFAIK) and get a text field. There you just type a few
letters of the program name and you get the icons of the matches; also
the most often used things are presented first it seems. So to start
gretl it's just three keystrokes without any mouse movement.
There are still some drawbacks and --as you say-- glitches, but it's
much better than it looks at first.
