Cannot test, since the latest snapshot is at Feb 13th. (OK, I could build it
myself on the other machine if necessary...)
There should now be an up-to-date snapshot in place, hopefully with
no sluggishness associated with having the console open.
(As for the effect not being visible on Linux, that may be due to
different GTK internals on the two platforms. And on Linux I maybe
saw a slight slowdown of menu responsiveness.)
