The only thing in partial disagreement that I feel like saying, however,
is: competing implementation of a given technique may be nice to have
(the standard bio-diversity metaphor applies). But certainly, only up to
a point. My implementation hasn't been maintained for a long time and it
should go.
I removed it. But you're right, different implementations should be
possible in general. For lack of a better idea, I suggest that two (or
more) packages that try to do more or less the same thing should have
very similar names -- e.g. "cool_estimator" and "cool_estimator_alt"
or
"cool_estimator2".
