My current plan is to release gretl 2023b a week from today (July
18).
So this would be a good time to update translations. Also if people
have sets of test scripts it would be a good time to run them and
report any problems.
Thanks, Allin. The German translation should be pretty much ready.
Here's a different (and not new) thing, don't know whether some change
before the release is wise or warranted:
Under Help/Look for addons, I think the window is listing the available
addon versions from the server. The background was that people on older
gretl versions might be interested to update an addon without moving to
a newer gretl version. OK, but nowhere in that window does it mention a
server. (Only very indirectly at the bottom it says "network status: OK".)
So the known problem is that when you run a snapshot or a self-compiled
git version of gretl, then your installed addons will be (partly) newer
than what's listed there. This is --arguably-- confusing; even more so
because the "local status" column still says "current".
Possible remedies (not mutually exclusive):
- Add an info text in the window saying something like "If you're
running a pre-release gretl version, a local addon version might be
newer than the listed ones."
- In the Local-Status column, introduce a new flag saying "pre-release"
or so.
- For the Date column, change the header to "Date of [released] version
on server".
All these changes should be quite non-intrusive or hopefully not
dangerous, it's just about being clearer in the communication.
Just a thought...
thanks
