Am I missing a TeX package? This part of the manual doesn't look so new,
and otherwise somebody else would have noticed the error, right?
It doesn't sound like a missing package -- maybe a version difference? No
error is flagged here with pdfTeX 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 and hyperref
2012/11/06 v6.83m.
