Dear Professor Cottrell,
The tabbed script editor and model window are really great. Despite
the need for more polish, these already add substantially to the
overall gretl experience. Here are a few comments:
1)- The ability to drag a tab out is nice and useful but I think there
must be a way to do the opposite. Is there a difficulty with dragging
something back in? If so maybe there can be an icon for scripts and an
entry in the file menu for models to "move to the main window".
2)- I notice that switching between model tabs, gretl does not anymore
check for the subsample status. I am guessing that you are aware and
already working on this.
3)- I think it is best that the "New window" and "Open..." icons are
found only in the (main) "script editor", which acts as the primary
window for this operation. The alternative (and the best) setting is
one where everything can be draged in and out of everything but I
understand that this is something difficult to do.
4)- Now that a model tab can be dragged, it could be nice to be able
to drag it onto the Model Table, but I have a feeling that this may
not be very easy to do.
5)- In the tabbed model window, clicking on the "Windows" menu title
does not change its color, causing a difficult to explain behavior
when moving to the other menus immediately after.
6)- Model names in the tabs are not capitalized but they are in the
icon view window.
7)- What does "smart tabs" do?
8)- Once tabbed windows are more mature for scripts and models, I
think the next step would be supporting tabbed plot windows (fingers
crossed).
I will continue to test...
Sincerely
Talha

For those who'd like to have their (single-equation) model GUI
output collected in a tabbed window, you can now select "Model
viewer uses tabs" under preferences -- this is in CVS and
snapshots.
This is experimental and will not necessarily be enabled in
the next release, depending on how many bugs appear and how
difficult they are to fix. But please test!
