I just tested on Windows 8, and I see what you mean: no response from the
"gears" button after making that change to the plot. Since I can replicate
the problem I should be able to figure out what's going on.
This should now be OK in the current snapshot. As it happens, the
problem "nothing happens when you click the gears button" was not
specific to the content of this plot file at all -- rather, the
mechanism for sending a plot file directly to gnuplot from the plot
editor, on MS Windows, had somehow succumbed to bit-rot.
