Let me add this: if the data to be appended are not plain text,
but are in the native format of Gnumeric, Excel or Open Document,
and the quarterly dates in the first column are expressed not
using the YYYYcQ notation as in my previous post (for c = ":", "Q"
or ".") but rather as the calendar dates of the start of the
quarter, in the native date format of the respective spreadsheet
programs, the same point applies: the imported data are accepted,
and are correctly aligned date-wise.
