Fair point. I think the GUI menu set-up dates back to a time when we weren't
so clever at detecting data file types and acting accordingly. Maybe we
should simplify it.
Or maybe, just try our battery of heuristics (file extension etc) on
File>Open and reserve File>Import when the user wants to force a
particular filter to be used (maybe, because you have, for some odd
reason, an excel file under the extension .txt or something weird like
that).
