I've read what seemed relevant in the Skim Wiki/FAQ and I'm afraid
I can't find any mention of named destinations. I think the TeX
sync business is based on line numbers, something much lower-level
than what I'm working with.
I've checked Skim's scripting "dictionary" and it's not going to
work. They have a scriptable "go" action, but the only places it
knows about are pages, TeX-file lines and Notes (Skim's own
annotations). No support for named destinations.
However... after more googling and guesswork I've chanced upon a way
of getting Acrobat Reader on the Mac to go to a specified chapter
(tested with Reader DC, but I think it should work with other
variants). That's now in the snapshots for Mac.
