Well, so far the new feature isn't in any release and won't be for some
time. The advantage of the package is that it works for many existing
gretl versions. I think it should stay around for at least another year.
Maybe you could add a check in the package that tells the user of gretl
=2019d that the package isn't needed anymore for them.
